I often see luwei (滷味) sold on the side of the street but rarely buy since the portions are  usually better suited for sharing. My grandmother was in Taipei for a few weeks though, so we had this snack of ji xin (雞心), chicken heart “stewed in soy sauce” (lu, 滷) and chili peppers and a touch of la jiao (辣椒). The only clue that you’re eating a chicken heart is the chewy, yet smooth texture – and the surprisingly crunchy sensation when you bite through the center.
