My Taiwanese roommates invited me to barbecue with them for the Mid-Autumn Festival last week. At Kao Ba Fang (烤八方), a restaurant that delivers all you can grill during your allotted time, the menu ranges from corn to meats that start out as pork, beef, or chicken, but are later impossible to differentiate as the smell of barbecue smoke interferes with the sense of taste.

A friend of my roommates’ especially insisted on ordering scallops.  I myself am particular to shanbei (扇貝), named after the fan-like shape of the shell, but I was already on the cusp of a food-coma.
