The moon officially waxes full on Wednesday this week, but people have already been celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋節)for at least two weeks by barbecuing and exchanging moon cakes. Moon cakes, or yue bing, come in many shapes and sizes and with all sorts of filling, including ice cream, mochi, and chocolate. The more traditional flavors are red bean and egg yolk, green bean, or particular to Taiwan, pineapple filling.
